Hydropower Flow Duration Curve Calculator
Formulas
The Flow Duration Curve (FDC) represents the percentage of time a given flow is exceeded:
- FDC(\%) = \( \frac{\text{Rank}}{\text{Total Months} + 1} \times 100 \)
- Where:
- Rank = Position of flow when sorted in descending order
- Total Months = 12 (for monthly data)
How to Use
- Enter the average monthly flow rates (in m³/s) for each month.
- Optionally, click an adjust button to set typical values (e.g., Low for January).
- Click “Calculate FDC” to generate the flow duration curve data and chart.
- Scroll to the “Results” section for the table and visual representation.
Examples
- Example 1: Jan=1.5, Feb=1.4, …, Jul=3.5 (as default)
FDC shows 3.5 m³/s exceeded ~8% of the time, 1.4 m³/s exceeded ~92% of the time.
