DNA Molecular Weight Calculator
DNA Molecular Weight Calculator
Estimate the molecular weight of a DNA sequence with this user-friendly DNA calculator. Input your DNA sequence and select the strand type (single-stranded or double-stranded), then calculate to get a molecular weight in Daltons (Da). Perfect for molecular biology research!
How It Works
Enter your DNA sequence and select the strand type, then click “Calculate” to see the molecular weight. The calculator displays the result, sequence length, strand type, and steps, scrolls to the result, and offers options to copy or share.

About DNA Molecular Weight Calculator
The DNA Molecular Weight Calculator computes the molecular weight of a DNA sequence in Daltons (Da) based on the sequence and strand type (single-stranded or double-stranded). It’s a simple tool for molecular biology research.
How to Use
- Enter your DNA sequence using only A, T, C, G (case-insensitive) in the text input or via the keypad buttons (A, T, C, G).
- Select the strand type (single-stranded or double-stranded) from the dropdown.
- Click the “Calculate” button to compute the molecular weight. The page will scroll to the result.
- The result, sequence length, strand type, and detailed step-by-step calculations will be displayed below.
- Use the “Copy Result” button to copy the molecular weight, sequence length, strand type, and steps.
- Share your result on Twitter, WhatsApp, or Facebook, or copy an embed code to include the calculator or result on your website using the share buttons.
Formulas
For single-stranded DNA:
Nucleotide Weights: A = 313.2 Da, T = 304.2 Da, C = 289.2 Da, G = 329.2 Da
For double-stranded DNA:
Base Pair Weights: A-T = 617.4 Da, C-G = 618.4 Da
Important Notes
- The sequence must contain only A, T, C, G (case-insensitive). Invalid characters or empty sequences will trigger an error.
- Calculations include a 5’ monophosphate (79.0 Da for single-stranded, 158.0 Da for double-stranded).
- Clipboard access requires a secure context (HTTPS). If copying fails, try accessing the calculator over HTTPS or copy manually.
- The keypad is tailored for nucleotide input (A, T, C, G) with clear and navigation options.
