Carbon Footprint Estimator calculates your annual carbon footprint in metric tons of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) based on your electricity usage, transportation, diet, and air travel. Enter the required data and click “Calculate Footprint” to see your estimated emissions.

How to Use Carbon Footprint Estimator:
- Enter your annual household electricity usage in kWh.
- Enter annual miles driven and your vehicle’s fuel efficiency in mpg.
- Select your diet type (meat-heavy, moderate, vegetarian, or vegan).
- Enter your annual flight hours.
- Click “Calculate Footprint” to see your estimated carbon footprint.
- Use “Share Result” or “Copy Result” to share or copy the output.
Calculation Details:
The calculator estimates emissions using:
- Electricity: \\(\text{Emissions (tCO2e)} = \frac{\text{kWh} \times 0.4}{1000}\\), (0.4 kg CO2e/kWh)
- Transportation: \\(\text{Emissions (tCO2e)} = \frac{\text{Miles} \div \text{mpg} \times 8.89}{1000}\\), (8.89 kg CO2e/gallon)
- Diet: Fixed values (meat-heavy: 2.5 tCO2e, moderate: 1.5 tCO2e, vegetarian: 1.0 tCO2e, vegan: 0.5 tCO2e)
- Air Travel: \\(\text{Emissions (tCO2e)} = \text{Hours} \times 0.25\\), (0.25 tCO2e/hour)
- Total: \\(\text{Total} = \text{Electricity} + \text{Transport} + \text{Diet} + \text{Flights}\\)
Note: Emission factors are 2025 global averages. Actual emissions vary by region and lifestyle.
Important Notes:
- Electricity emissions depend on your local grid’s energy mix (e.g., coal vs. renewables).
- Transportation assumes gasoline vehicles; electric vehicles may have lower emissions.
- Diet emissions are per-person averages; actual values depend on specific food choices.
- Flight emissions assume economy class; business or first-class flights have higher emissions.
