Coaxial Cable Capacitance Calculator

Coaxial Cable Capacitance Calculator

Coaxial Cable Capacitance Calculator computes the capacitance per unit length of a coaxial cable based on the dielectric material, inner conductor radius, and outer conductor inner radius. Select the material, input the radii, select units, and calculate the capacitance.

How to Use Coaxial Cable Capacitance Calculator:

  1. Select the dielectric material (e.g., Air, Polyethylene, Teflon, Mica).
  2. Enter the inner conductor radius (a) and outer conductor inner radius (b) using the keypad or direct input; use “Next” to switch fields.
  3. Select the unit for each radius (m, mm, µm).
  4. Click “Calculate” to see step-by-step results.
  5. Use “Share Result” to get shareable text or “Copy Result” to copy to clipboard.

Formula:

Capacitance per Unit Length (C/L):

C/L = (2π × ε₀ × ε_r) / ln(b/a)

Where: C/L = capacitance per unit length (F/m), ε₀ = permittivity of free space (8.854 × 10⁻¹² F/m), ε_r = relative permittivity, a = inner conductor radius (m), b = outer conductor inner radius (m), ln = natural logarithm

Important Notes:

  • Inputs for inner and outer radii must be positive, and the outer radius must be greater than the inner radius (b > a). Invalid inputs will trigger an error.
  • Dielectric constants are approximate and assume standard conditions.
  • Clipboard access requires a secure context (HTTPS). If copying fails, try accessing over HTTPS or copy manually.
