How to Calculate Event Seating Capacity
Seating capacity depends on the venue’s usable area and the seating style. The calculator computes the total area, subtracts additional space (e.g., for stages), and divides by the space required per person based on the seating style.
Space per Person:
– Banquet (Round Tables): 12 sq ft per person
– Theater/Auditorium: 7 sq ft per person
– Classroom: 10 sq ft per person
Example 1: Banquet Style
Venue: 50 ft × 30 ft, Additional Space: 200 sq ft
Total Area = 50 × 30 = 1500 sq ft
Usable Area = 1500 – 200 = 1300 sq ft
Seats = 1300 ÷ 12 ≈ 108 seats
Example 2: Theater Style
Venue: 40 ft × 20 ft, Additional Space: 0 sq ft
Total Area = 40 × 20 = 800 sq ft
Usable Area = 800 – 0 = 800 sq ft
Seats = 800 ÷ 7 ≈ 114 seats
