Mutual Inductance Calculator

Mutual Inductance Calculator

Mutual Inductance Calculator computes the mutual inductance between two coaxial circular coils. Input the number of turns, radii of the coils, and distance between them, select their units, and calculate the mutual inductance.

How to Use Mutual Inductance Calculator:

  1. Enter the number of turns for each coil, radii of the coils, and distance between them using the keypad or direct input; use “Next” to switch fields.
  2. Select appropriate units for radii and distance (e.g., m, cm, mm).
  3. Click “Calculate” to see step-by-step results.
  4. Use “Share Result” to get shareable text or “Copy Result” to copy to clipboard.

Formula:

Mutual Inductance (M):

M = (μ₀ π N₁ N₂ r₁² r₂²) / (2 d³)

Where: μ₀ = permeability of free space (4π × 10⁻⁷ H/m), N₁, N₂ = number of turns in coils 1 and 2, r₁, r₂ = radii of coils 1 and 2 (m), d = distance between coils (m)

Important Notes:

  • Inputs for number of turns, radii, and distance must be positive numbers. Invalid inputs will trigger an error.
  • The calculator assumes coaxial circular coils and uses an approximate formula valid when the distance is significantly larger than the coil radii.
  • Clipboard access requires a secure context (HTTPS). If copying fails, try accessing over HTTPS or copy manually.
