Reading Speed Improvement Calculator

Reading Speed Improvement Calculator

Track your reading speed progress by entering your current speed, practice routine, and target speed. Predict improvements over time and estimate when you’ll reach your goal.

How to Use the Reading Speed Improvement Calculator

  1. Enter Current Speed: Input your current reading speed in words per minute (WPM).
  2. Set Target Speed: Enter your desired reading speed goal (WPM).
  3. Add Practice Details: Input the number of weekly practice sessions and hours per session.
  4. Specify Weeks: Enter the number of weeks to track progress.
  5. Calculate: Click “Calculate Progress” to see projected speed improvements and time to reach your target.
  6. Review Results: View your progress, estimated future speed, and tips. Share or copy the results.

Note: Improvement is estimated at 5-10 WPM per week, adjusted by practice intensity (sessions and hours). Consistent practice with techniques like speed reading drills or apps (e.g., Spreeder) enhances results.

Example Calculation

Inputs: Current Speed = 200 WPM, Target Speed = 400 WPM, Weekly Sessions = 5, Hours per Session = 0.5, Weeks = 12

Calculations:

  • Weekly Practice Hours: \( 5 \times 0.5 = 2.5 \, \text{hours} \)
  • Improvement Rate: \( 7.5 \, \text{WPM/week} \) (base 5 WPM + 1 WPM per hour/week)
  • Projected Speed after 12 Weeks: \( 200 + (7.5 \times 12) = 290 \, \text{WPM} \)
  • Progress to Target: \( \frac{290 – 200}{400 – 200} \times 100 = 45\% \)
  • Weeks to Target: \( \frac{400 – 200}{7.5} \approx 26.67 \, \text{weeks} \)

Suggestions: Use speed reading apps and practice with varied texts to improve comprehension and speed.
