Stellar Evolution Simulator
Stellar Evolution Simulator tracks a star’s HR diagram path using mass, metallicity, with a spectral plot.
Stellar Evolution Overview
Stars evolve through phases (e.g., main sequence, red giant) based on mass and metallicity:
Main sequence lifetime: \\(\tau_{\text{MS}} \approx 10^{10} \left( \frac{M}{M_\odot} \right)^{-2.5} \, \text{yr}\\)
Luminosity: \\(L \approx L_\odot \left( \frac{M}{M_\odot} \right)^{3.5}\\)
Temperature: \\(T_{\text{eff}} \approx T_\odot \left( \frac{M}{M_\odot} \right)^{0.5} \left( 1 + \frac{Z}{0.02} \right)^{-0.1}\\)
Radius: \\(R \approx \sqrt{\frac{L}{4 \pi \sigma T_{\text{eff}}^4}}\\)
Example Calculation
Example: Star with \\(M = 1 M_\odot, Z = 0.02\\)
Main Sequence Lifetime: \\(\tau_{\text{MS}} \approx 1.00 \times 10^{10} \, \text{yr}\\)
ZAMS Luminosity: \\(L \approx 1.00 L_\odot\\)
ZAMS Temperature: \\(T_{\text{eff}} \approx 5772 \, \text{K}\\)
ZAMS Radius: \\(R \approx 1.00 R_\odot\\)
