About the Body Type Calculator
The Body Type Calculator estimates your somatotype (ectomorph, mesomorph, or endomorph) based on height, weight, wrist, and ankle measurements, providing insights into your physique and fitness tendencies.
Body Types: Somatotypes describe body composition tendencies:
- Ectomorph: Lean, small frame, difficulty gaining muscle or fat.
- Mesomorph: Muscular, medium frame, balanced physique.
- Endomorph: Rounded, large frame, higher fat storage.
Use this calculator to understand your body type, tailor fitness plans, or discuss results with a trainer or healthcare provider.
- Features:
- Calculates BMI: \( \text{BMI} = \frac{\text{weight (kg)}}{\text{height (m)}^2} \) (Metric) or \( \text{BMI} = \frac{\text{weight (lbs)} \times 703}{\text{height (in)}^2} \) (Imperial).
- Estimates frame size using wrist-to-height ratio.
- Classifies body type based on frame size, BMI, and ankle circumference.
- Inputs: Height, weight, wrist circumference, ankle circumference, gender, and unit system.
- Keypad includes digits (0–9) and decimal point (.).
- Displays step-by-step calculations in LaTeX format.
- Clear, backspace, and copy functionality for results.
- Uses MathJax for professional rendering of mathematical expressions.
- Practical Applications: Useful for fitness enthusiasts, trainers, or individuals planning diet and exercise regimens based on physique.
- How to Use:
- Select the unit system (Metric or Imperial).
- Select gender (Male or Female).
- Enter weight (\( w \), in kg or lbs).
- Enter height (\( h \), in cm or ft/in).
- Enter wrist circumference (\( r \), in cm or in).
- Enter ankle circumference (\( a \), in cm or in).
- Use the keypad to input digits and decimal points.
- Click "Calculate" to view the body type and details.
- Use "Clear" to reset or "⌫" to delete the last character.
- Use "Copy Results" to copy the results.
- Share or embed the calculator using the action buttons.
- Helpful Tips:
- Measure wrist and ankle at their narrowest points for accuracy.
- All inputs must be positive numbers.
- Body type classification is a general guide; individual variations exist.
- Results are approximate; consult a fitness professional for detailed assessment.
- Imperial height requires both feet and inches; inches can be 0.
- Examples:
- Example 1: Male, Metric:
- Inputs: Weight = 65 kg, Height = 175 cm, Wrist = 16 cm, Ankle = 20 cm, Gender = Male, Unit = Metric
- Steps:
- BMI: \( \text{BMI} = \frac{65}{1.75^2} = 21.22 \)
- Frame Size: \( \frac{\text{Height}}{\text{Wrist}} = \frac{175}{16} = 10.94 \) (Small, as >10.4 for men)
- Ankle: 20 cm (small, supports ectomorph)
- Body Type: Small frame, BMI < 20–25 → Ectomorph
- Result: Body Type = Ectomorph, Frame = Small, BMI = 21.2
- Example 2: Female, Imperial:
- Inputs: Weight = 160 lbs, Height = 5 ft 4 in, Wrist = 6.5 in, Ankle = 9 in, Gender = Female, Unit = Imperial
- Steps:
- Total Height: \( 5 \times 12 + 4 = 64 \) in
- BMI: \( \text{BMI} = \frac{160 \times 703}{64^2} = 27.43 \)
- Frame Size: \( \frac{\text{Height}}{\text{Wrist}} = \frac{64}{6.5} = 9.85 \) (Large, as <11 for women)
- Ankle: 9 in (large, supports endomorph)
- Body Type: Large frame, BMI > 25 → Endomorph
- Result: Body Type = Endomorph, Frame = Large, BMI = 27.4
- Example 1: Male, Metric:
